The Bronco Varsity Silver Golf Team competed in the Regional Preview tournament at Tanglewood Resort Golf Course in Pottsboro on the 14th and 15th of February. The boys battled windchills in the upper 30s to start their round Friday morning playing on unfamiliar fairways and putting on unfamiliar greens. The team finished the first day in sixth place in a field of 25 teams. Junior Miles Parker led the way in round one shooting an exceptional score of two over par 74. Close on Miles’ heels Junior Jackson Null held on to break 80 shooting a great 78. Junior Jack Brown fired a nice 82 to place third on the team. Seniors Nick Brooks and Rawley Soliz rounded out the first day with scores of 91 and 96 respectively. Sophomore Austin Watson, playing as a medalist, turned in a fantastic 82. Other medalists included juniors Gavin Kerr and Brayden Hoff. Gavin carded a 90 and Brayden a 113.
Day two brought slightly warmer temperatures and moisture to Tanglewood. The wet course proved more challenging to the boys than the frigid temperatures of Friday. Jackson Null held on to once again break 80 shooting a great 79. Nick bounced back and carded a very nice 81. Miles fell back just a little but still turned in a good score of 85. Jack had a total of 87 strokes, and Rawley shaved seven strokes off his first day total and posted an 89 on the second day. The medalists were once again led by Austin who finished the day with a score of 84. Gavin improved the second day of the tournament turning in a good 86 and Brayden improved as well with a score of 105.
The team wound up finishing in 12th place behind powerhouse golf teams Highland Park, Frisco Wakeland and Walnut Grove. The team accomplished their first goal of learning the course and plotting a strategy for our return engagement in April.
The next tournament for the varsity team will be at the state preview at Whitewing Golf Course in Georgetown ( A course with which they are far more familiar.) on February the 28th and March 1st.
