The Bronco Varsity Silver Golf Team competed in the 5A State Preview golf tournament at Legacy Hills Golf Course in Georgetown last Friday and Saturday. Playing against the best teams in the state, the Broncos finished the tournament in 12th place. The team was led by Junior Miles Parker whose two-day score of 157 included a great birdie on the par five seventh hole on the second day of the contest. Miles was just left of the green in two, but behind a mesquite tree. He hit a great flop shot over the tree to put him six feet from the hole. One putt later and the birdie was secured! Close on Miles’ heels Junior Jackson Null carded a two-day total of 164. Jackson’s best hole of the tournament was also on the second day and occurred on the par five 18th hole. Jackson bombed his drive up the middle of the fairway, then chose to lay up to 45 yards from the hole. A 44-yard pitch left him three feet from the bottom of the cup and solid birdie. Junior Jack Brown and Senior Nick Brooks both shot 170 for the competition. Jack’s best occurred on the 10th hole where he hit the green in regulation and drained a 20 foot putt for another birdie. Senior Nick Brooks’ 170 also occurred on the 10th hole, on the first day. After hitting a great drive and a really good lay up Nick stuck a 50-yard approach shot to two feet and tapped in for his first birdie of the back nine. Senior Rawley Soliz rounded out the team needing a total of 174 swings for the two days. Rawley’s round included an incredible birdie on the par 3 eighth hole. Rawley’s tee shot missed the green 15 yards to the right in deep grass. He blasted the ball out and it rolled from the edge of the green into the bottom of the hole! The Varsity Silver Team will hit the course again at the Dameron Tournament held at Bear Ridge Golf Course and Cottonwood Creek Golf Course on March 7th and 8th, respectively.
