The Broncos competed in the UIL 5A District 16 Championships on April 2 and 3 at Belton ISD Field. From late January, the Broncos have had a long road working up to this moment.

The Broncos started out strong on day 1 with a lot of the boys qualifying to Area through the way of field events.
Senior Travellis Harrison continued to have a great year, earning 1st and 3rd in the shot put and discus.
The trio of Julian Walker, Allen Muchunu, and Mikey Lockett went 1-2-3 in the high jump event. Walker would then come over to the long jump and would take 1st there as well, and Kendrick Jones Jr. would take ?? after only two attempts. Senior Michael Frazier, who has been battling injury all season long, came through in a big way by finishing 3rd in the triple jump and earning his way to Area. This was only his second meet of the year. The Broncos carried a slight lead overall to round out the day.
Day 2 would become more interesting for the Broncos, as the injury bug would come in warmups, 30 minutes before finals began. Senior Zach Dodd would be pulled with a hamstring.
Junior Davion Peters would be inserted into the 4x100 meter relay with Zion Harness, Josh Mallard, and Christian Onchweri. The quartet would go on to finish 3rd in the event and qualify for the Area round, giving the Broncos a strong start on the day. Sophomore Zion Harness would then go on to take 3rd in the 100 with a new PR of 10.84, advancing to Area. Junior Davion Peters, who had not hurdled since middle school, took on the challenge to help the team in the 300 meter hurdles. He would come through to make the finals and finished 4th overall, qualifying for the Area round. Junior Kendrick Jones Jr. would take 1st in the 400, but would come up gimpy at the finish. With his status being uncertain in the 200 meter dash until about 3 minutes before the race, Jones would check in to the 200 and took 1st with a 20.71, his best time of the season.
The Broncos would go into the 4x400 with the District Runner Up spot at stake, having to finish 4th or better. With Jones Jr. being done for the day due to injury, senior Zach Dodd, who had been shut down for the meet earlier due to potential injury, took one for the team and would run with Zion Harness, Jayden Haye, and freshman Prince Moore to a 4th place finish. The Broncos would qualify in the 4x400 to the Area round and secured the Runner Up spot.
The JV boys would also go on to finish as District Runner Up as well, finishing with a strong day 2.
Overall, our young men showed fight and grit through the course of these last two days. For the third year in a row, the boys took Runner Up of both the JV and Varsity divisions. Many guys had to step in place in alternate situations and found a way to help the team.
The District 15/16 Area Championships will be next Thursday, April 10th here at Bronco Field.
