The Broncos JV girls basketball team made a statement in their district opener, using relentless defense and balanced scoring to cruise past cross-town rival Belton Tigers, 53–25, on Friday night.
From the opening tip, the Broncos set the tone on the defensive end, pressuring the ball and contesting every pass. That effort paid off throughout the night, as the Tigers struggled to find any rhythm against a disciplined, team-first defensive approach.
Offensively, Kalei Cress led the way with 10 points, knocking down three three-pointers to stretch the floor and ignite key runs. Ainsley Dwyer added 9 points, providing steady scoring and timely finishes that kept the momentum firmly on the Broncos’ side.
A key point came in the third quarter, where Harley King did her best to take control of the game. King dominated both ends of the floor, scoring 6 points in the period while wreaking havoc defensively with multiple steals and deflections. The Broncos used that surge to blow the game open and put the rivalry matchup out of reach.
While the scoring was spread out, the real story of the night was the Broncos’ collective defensive effort. Every player contributed, communicating, rotating, and holding the Tigers to just 25 total points.
