Lake Belton Wrestling hosted the Jim Grimm Memorial Varsity Tournament this past week at Lake Belton High School, welcoming teams for a full day of competitive varsity action. Wrestling on their home mats, the Bronco boys and girls showed toughness, growth, and resilience as the postseason approaches.

On the boys’ side, several wrestlers battled through deep brackets and picked up key varsity wins. At 126, Tanner Wentz worked through the consolation rounds and earned a pin to extend his tournament run. Carl Huffman put together a strong performance at 138, opening with a first-round pin and following it up with a solid decision win to advance into the later rounds of the bracket.

At 144, Austin Carrillo delivered one of the standout performances of the tournament. Carrillo earned multiple falls on his way to the championship match, finishing as the runner-up and continuing to show consistency and improvement against varsity competition. Akshar Parikh also found success in the consolation bracket with a hard-fought decision win.

Additional highlights came from Jayden Alba (175) and Joseph Casmus (190), both of whom rebounded after early losses to earn pins in the consolation rounds. Across the lineup, the boys gained valuable varsity experience and continued building confidence heading toward district competition.

The varsity girls also competed well in front of the home crowd. Arionna Smith advanced into the consolation finals at 115 after opening her day with a pin. At 135, Michelle Hoffman made a strong run, picking up two quick falls to reach the semifinal round before finishing in the consolation finals.

At 140, Akira Beck fought through the consolation bracket with multiple wins, including a pin, to reach the later rounds. Kameryn Vaden turned in one of the top performances of the tournament, earning two falls to advance to the championship match and finishing as the runner-up at 190. Lorelai Scallorn competed at 235 and finished her tournament in the consolation finals.

Overall, the Jim Grimm Memorial Varsity Tournament was a successful event for Lake Belton Wrestling both on and off the mat. The athletes competed hard, gained meaningful experience, and represented the program with pride while helping host a smooth and well-organized tournament. With district competition approaching, the Broncos continue to build momentum at the right time.
