COLLEGE STATION, TX — Lake Belton Varsity Softball kicked off their tournament schedule this past weekend at the NFCA Leadoff Classic, finishing with a respectable 4-1 record. While the weekend ended abruptly due to weather, the Broncos put together several consistent performances against a variety of opponents.
The Broncos opened the tournament on a high note, relying on clean defense to pick up a 7-0 win over Lake Ridge and a tight 1-0 victory against Willis. They moved to 3-0 after a productive offensive showing against Argyle, winning 8-4.
The team faced their toughest stretch on Friday, falling 1-5 to the Montgomery Lady Bears. However, they managed to bounce back in their final game of the weekend against Tomball. After jumping out to a 3-1 lead, the game was called early as lightning and heavy rain moved into the College Station area.
Due to the deteriorating conditions, the tournament’s final slate of games was canceled, preventing the Broncos from finishing their full schedule.
