The Lady Bronco Golf Silver Team began their spring season with a two day tournament at Cottonwood Creek Golf Course in Waco on Friday and Saturday, February 20 and 21. The two day Waco ISD tournament is always a challenge with some of the top teams in the region from all classifications coming together to compete.
On Friday, the weather was an abrupt change from the previous day's 80 degree temperature. Friday was quite brisk with a slight wind.
Junior Lyliana Gonzalez led the Lady Broncos with a new personal best 89. She had five pars and one birdie on the day. Her previous personal best was a 90 at Stonetree in 2025.
Lillie Mikes, Junior, had the second best round for the Lady Broncos, shooting a 113, with four bogeys.
Sophomore Kaylee Carubelli had a 115 with two bogeys followed by Senior Suellen Tillis's 119 and Junior Reese Sexton's 124.
Saturday saw warmer temperatures but a much windier day, that made Cottonwood bare it's teeth.
Gonzalez continued to lead the Lady Broncos with a 103 and one par. Her two day total of 192 was good enough for 28th place in a tournament that featured over 100 golfers.
The only two Lady Bronco golfers who were able to improve their scores on day two were Sexton and Tillis, who shot 113 and 114 respectively, the 2nd and 3rd best scores of the day for the team. Reese had one par. Suellen had three bogeys. Carubelli shot 118 with two bogeys and Mikes had a 123 with one bogey to round out the scoring for the Silver Team.
Freshman Hayleigh McConnell made her Silver Team debut as a medalist for the Lady Broncos this weekend. It was her first two day tournament and first major tournament of her career. The lefty had a very good tournament, shooting a 109 on day one with five bogeys but slipping just a bit on day two with a 116 and three bogeys.
Lady Bronco Silver will play their next tournament on March 6 and 7 at the Marvin Dameron Tournament. The first day will be at Bear Ridge and the second day will be at Cottonwood in Waco. Tillis will play on March 4 in Salado with the Red Team due to a conflict with State BPA during the Marvin Dameron and McConnell will see action again on March 11 at Delaware Springs.
