The Lake Belton Broncos battled through a competitive tournament weekend, finishing with two wins and two losses while showing flashes of strong offense, solid pitching, and resilience against quality opponents.
Game 1: Leander 9, Lake Belton 7
The Broncos opened tournament play with a hard-fought 9–7 loss to Leander despite jumping out to an early lead in the first inning. Lake Belton’s offense came out aggressive and set the tone early, but small defensive mistakes throughout the game ultimately proved costly.
Brooks Hull, Brooks Johnson, Jacobo Salgado, Trent McKenzie, Callan Vaughn, and Caleb Luke each recorded hits as the Broncos consistently pressured Leander offensively. A late charge gave Lake Belton momentum down the stretch, but the early defensive miscues created too large of a gap to overcome.
Game 2: Lake Belton 6, Georgetown 1
The Broncos responded in impressive fashion in Game 2, defeating Georgetown 6–1 in a complete team performance.
Ace Micah Swift delivered four strong innings on the mound, controlling the game and allowing the defense to shine behind him. Lake Belton played excellent, clean defense throughout the contest, limiting opportunities for the Eagles. Brooks Johnson closed the game with a scoreless final inning, shutting the door to secure the win.
Offensively, Riley Kristinek led the way with three hits, while Athan Reyna added two. Brooks Hull, Jonah Mahan, and Caleb Luke each contributed a hit in what proved to be a strong rebound performance for the Broncos.
Game 3: East View 8, Lake Belton 4
Lake Belton dropped its third game of the tournament to East View, 8–4. East View jumped out to an early lead, and despite continued offensive effort, the Broncos were unable to close the gap.
Defensive struggles and small mistakes again played a role in the outcome. Riley Kristinek and Trent McKenzie each collected two hits, while Brooks Johnson and Micah Swift added one hit apiece in the loss.
Game 4: Lake Belton 6, Cedar Ridge 2
The Broncos closed the tournament on a high note with a 6–2 victory over Cedar Ridge.
Left-hander Athan Reyna was dominant on the mound, throwing four strong innings and keeping the Raiders from ever gaining momentum. Brooks Johnson entered in relief and made quick work of Cedar Ridge, securing the win.
Offensively, Ryan Wurman recorded two hits, while Brooks Hull provided the highlight of the game with a towering three-run home run that was a no-doubter off the bat. Riley Kristinek, Callan Vaughn, Trent McKenzie, Brooks Johnson, and Jonah Mahan each added a hit to round out a balanced offensive effort.
Tournament Takeaways
The Broncos showed resilience throughout the weekend, bouncing back from tough losses with strong performances fueled by pitching depth and timely hitting. While defensive consistency remains an area for improvement, Lake Belton demonstrated its ability to compete, respond to adversity, and finish strong — valuable momentum as the season continues.
