Broncos go 4-0-1 at Drew Medford Memorial Tournament

The Lake Belton Bronco Baseball team traveled to the DFW Metroplex over the weekend to compete in the Drew Medford Memorial Tournament. The Broncos enjoyed a successful weekend, going 4-0-1 over the three days.

Day 1 at South Grand Prairie
Game 1 vs. Trinity Valley- Lake opened the tournament against Trinity Valley and came away with a 9-0 victory. Colby Anthony was the winning pitcher, going 5 innings allowing 2 hits and striking out 5. Logan Winkler led the offense with a home run and 3 RBI. Zavian Rodriguez went 2-2 with an RBI and Braxtan Cope went 2-3.

Game 2 vs. South Grand Prairie- In a tightly contested game, Lake Belton and South Grand Prairie battled to a 5-5 tie. Landon Willey was 2-3 with a triple while Colby Anthony was 1-3 with a big 2 RBI triple. Willey went 5 innings on the mound allowing 8 hits and striking out 5.

Day 2 at Arlington Heights
Game 3 vs. Mansfield- A stiff wind blowing straight in from left field made for a very difficult offensive day. The Bronco offense was up to the challenge, banging out 10 hits. Zavian Rodriguez had 3 hits, Braxtan Cope had 2, while Colby Anthony and DJ Lavallee each had 2 RBI. Maverik Maddux went 5 strong innings allowing only 2 hits while striking out 7. The Broncos cruised to a 9-2 win over the Mansfield Tigers.

Game 4 vs. Benbrook- The Broncos had another 10 hits in the second game of the day, beating Benbrook by a score of 10-0. DJ Lavallee had 2 hits and 2 RBI, Colby Anthony. had 2 hits and 2 RBI, and Easton Robertson added 2 RBI as well. Gavin Carpenter was the winning pitcher, going 6 shutout innings, allowing 4 hits and striking out 5.

Day 3 at Joshua
Game 5 vs Joshua- The final game of the tourney was against the Joshua Owls on a windy, chilly and rainy Saturday. After a slow start the Bronco offense caught fire, scoring 10 runs on 12 hits en route to a 10-4 victory over the host squad. RJ Hunt had 3 hits, Zavian Rodriguez, Landon Willey, and Travis Moore each added 2 hits to the Bronco attack. Colby Anthony chipped in 2 RBI in the winning effort. Braxtan Cope went 6 strong innings on the mound striking out 5, and RJ Hunt closed it down striking out the side in the 7th.

Lake Belton will return to Bronco Ballpark this week with a midweek contest against the Westlake Chaparrals. First pitch is slated for 6 p.m. The Broncos will travel to Westlake on Friday for a 6 p.m. game. After 3 weeks of tournaments the Broncos are 8-4-2 on the season.
