Three athletes represented Lake Belton girls powerlifting in the unequipped division of the Region 2 Powerlifting Meet Thursday night at Del Valle High School, turning in an outstanding performance against strong regional competition.

Despite having only three competitors, Lake Belton finished just one point shy of third place as a team in the unequipped division. All three lifters earned medals in their respective weight classes.

Leading the way was Nani Rubio, who won her weight class and delivered a record-breaking performance. Rubio reset her own regional records in both the squat and deadlift, continuing her dominant season.

Freshman Taytum Hobson also had an impressive showing, finishing second in her weight class. Along the way, Hobson broke the regional record in the bench press for her weight class, highlighting a strong first regional appearance.

In her first year competing in the unequipped division, Avery Park also earned a medal, finishing fourth in her weight class and contributing valuable points to the team’s near podium finish.

Both Rubio and Hobson qualified for the state powerlifting meet, which will take place in Edinburg. The unequipped state meet is scheduled for Thursday, March 19.

With record-breaking lifts and two state qualifiers, the Lake Belton girls powerlifting team continues to demonstrate its strength and depth at the regional level.
