The Lake Belton JV Broncos kicked off district play in commanding fashion on Tuesday, securing a decisive 12-4 victory over the University Trojans.
Aryana Teague earned the start for the Broncos, navigating three innings while allowing four runs on six hits. She showed grit under pressure, finishing her outing with a strikeout before handing the ball to the bullpen.
Briley Shirley provided a masterclass in relief, throwing one inning of perfect "no-run" ball. The right-hander was untouchable, striking out three consecutive batters without allowing a single hit or walk to close the door on the Trojans.
The Broncos' offense was fueled by disciplined hitting and aggressive baserunning:
Mecca Jefferson led the charge, going a perfect 2-for-2 at the plate.
Alana Martinez and Adalyn Ramos provided the power with a standout triple.
RBI Contributions: Teague, Jefferson, Shirley, and Catalina Esquivel each drove in a run.
Plate Discipline: The team showed a keen eye, drawing six total walks, led by Khloe Smith with two.
Lake Belton kept the pressure on the basepaths all afternoon, swiping five total bases. Raelynn Hunt led the track meet with two stolen bases, followed by Hayleigh McConnell, Aiyana Rountree, and Khloe Smith with one apiece. Defensively, the Broncos remained sharp, punctuated by a smoothly turned double play to stifle a Trojan rally.
The Broncos look to carry this momentum into Friday afternoon as they prepare for a high-stakes rivalry matchup against the Belton Tigers.
