The Lake Belton Broncos moved to 2-0 in district play Tuesday night, securing a gritty 5-2 victory over their rivals, the Belton Tigers.

Southpaw Lilliana Herrera earned the win in the circle for the Broncos. Herrera battled through six innings, surrendered just two runs on seven hits, recording 5 strike outs.

The game’s most dramatic moment arrived in the bottom of the 7th. With the Broncos leading 5-2, the Tigers loaded the bases with no outs, threatening a late-inning comeback. Natalie Hosch was called upon to shut the door, and she did so in spectacular fashion.

Hosch retired the side in order—allowing no hits, no runs, and no walks while recording a strikeout—to earn a hard-fought save and seal the rivalry win.

The Broncos’ defense was arguably the story of the night. Middle infielders Addison Sims and Analicia Diaz anchored a clean performance, combining for eight putouts.

Lake Belton utilized a balanced attack to provide their pitchers with enough run support:

Analicia Diaz: Led the team with 4 total bases, including a triple.

Avery Park: Doubled and finished with 2 total bases.

Maliyah Gooden: Contributed 2 total bases and a stolen base.

Madison Naser: Credited with a sacrifice fly.

Speed on the Paths: The Broncos were aggressive on the bases, recording five stolen bases (Isabell Magana 2, Addison Sims, Analicia Diaz, and Maliyah Gooden).

The Broncos look to keep their momentum rolling as they travel to Ellison High School next Tuesday for another crucial district matchup.
