Friday, March 20th, the Lady Bronco Soccer team matched up against Red Oak on a windy, hot evening at Waco Midway Panther Stadium for the first round of the UIL State Playoffs.
Last year, the same match-up saw Red Oak take home the win 4-1. This year, the Broncos came ready for revenge.
Playing against the wind the first half, the Broncos stayed very defensive with Elizabeth Gudgen coming up with some big saves, and holding the shutout. 4 minutes before halftime, Audrey Mughelli threw in the ball long across the box and Clara Hill headed it in for the Broncos to take a 1-0 lead and gain the momentum.
The second half the Broncos found the back of the net 3 more times. The second goal came from a great ball out wide from Teagan Pettijohn who found Clara Hill in the box. Hill beat the defender on the goal-line side and was fouled hard, earning a penalty kick. Evelyn Bragewitz placed the PK in the left side of the net for the Broncos to go up 2-0.
The third goal start with another Audrey Mughelli throw in, finding Pettijohn once again who beat three defenders to place a backpost ball that Hill once again beat the defenders to and put the Broncos up by 3.
The lone Red Oak goal came from a questionable call in the box, after Madison Weber stopped their forward by getting all ball, but unfortunately was called for a foul. Red Oak put away their PK to make the game 3-1.
The Broncos were quick to earn their goal back, as they went back down and earned a corner kick. Teagan Pettijohn placed a beautiful ball into the box that Mikaela Ebbers got on the end up to solidify the 4-1 win for the Broncos! Lix Gudgen once again played outstanding in the second half, and totaled 10 saves in goal.

The Broncos will face West Mesquite Tuesday, March 24th, at 6pm in Hillsboro for the Area Playoff Round.
