The Varsity Red Bronco Golf Team brought home the third-place trophy at the District 16 5A golf tournament at Stonetree Golf Course. The boy’s two-day total of 781 strokes outpaced the fourth-place team by an impressive 47 strokes. The team was led by freshman Jacob Sullivan, who needed 173 strokes to complete the tournament. His score earned Jacob a 7th place finish and a place on the all-district team. His score also earned him a spot in the regional tournament at Tanglewood Golf Course as the first medalist in district 16 5-A. Jacob had a total of three birdies over the two-day tournament. Jacob was followed by freshman Jackson Dolotina, who took 185 swings to finish the tournament. Jackson showed true determination after hitting his tee shot into the water on the par-three 16th hole. After taking his penalty drop, Jackson came within inches of holing out the shot for par. The resulting tap in bogie was a great up-and-down. Junior Kaiden Beaty was third on the team with a score of 187. Kaiden’s best hole of the tournament included a 60 yard hole out on the par-three 12th hole for an outstanding birdie! Kaiden was followed by Junior Levi Tarrence-Crotty who needed 193 swings to finish the tournament. Levi’s tournament included a shot on the par-four 10th hole that drifted into the trees on the right side of the fairway. Levi played the smart shot and punched out into the fairway. A chip shot and a one putt later resulted in a great par. Rounding out the team, Junior Landon Casperson shot a 196 in the two-day event. Landon also played smart golf. After finding trouble on the seventh hole he punched a five iron to 10 feet from the pin and ended up with a nice par.
The Broncos also had three medalists competing in the district tournament. They included Freshman Cole Russell, whose total of 189 included a pin-shot on the eighth hole and earned him a top 20 finish. Sophomore Weston Minzak was second among the medalists with a total of 193. Weston also finished in the top 20, landing in the 19th spot. Junior Andrew Hardin was the third of Lake Belton’s medalists. Andrew also shot a 193 and a top 20 finish.
