In a game that lived up to every bit of the pre-game hype, the Lake Belton Broncos secured a gritty 6-5 road victory over the Belton Tigers. This marks a historic win for Lake Belton, as it serves as the final scheduled district match-up between the rivals before the Broncos move to a new district next season.
With this win, Lake Belton remains perfect in district play, improving their record to 7-0.
The action started early in the top of the second when Addison Sims cracked a double to put the Broncos on the board. They added another in the third behind a Brysen Gott RBI groundout, but the Tigers roared back in the bottom half of the inning, scoring three runs to take a 3-2 lead.
The lead didn't last long. In the top of the fourth, the Broncos’ bats went back to work:
Analicia Diaz laced an RBI double down the right-field line.
Alaysha Williams followed up with an RBI single down the left-field line.
The Tigers managed to push two more across in the sixth, but the Broncos' pitching and defense held firm to close the door.
The Broncos continued to disrupt their opponents with aggressive speed, led by Analicia Diaz and Isabell Magana with two stolen bases each, while Alaysha Williams and Alexis Walker added one apiece to round out the team's six-steal performance.
Natalie Hosch earned the win, battling through 5.1 innings. She surrendered six hits and four earned runs while striking out three. Lilliana Herrera came on in relief to shut things down, throwing 1.2 innings of one-hit ball to earn the save.
The undefeated Broncos look to keep the momentum swinging as they return home this Friday to host Ellison High School.
