The Lady Bronco Silver Golf Team competed at the Regional Golf Tournament on April 15 and April 16 at Tanglewood Golf Course in Pottsboro, TX. This is the 6th consecutive year the Lady Broncos have been Regional Qualifiers.
One the first day, the golfers were warming up and excited to play when a nearby thunderstorm prompted a one hour and twenty minute lightning delay. The delay was a hiccup in the warm up routine for many of the golfers but they did their best to overcome it and challenge the tough course.
After the lengthy first round, the Lake team was in 12th place of 16 teams. They shot a team total of 450, which was above their average for the year but a lower score than their district score.
Junior Lyliana Gonzalez had a good first round for the Broncos, shooting a 94. That included one birdie and two pars.
Senior Suellen Tillis, playing in her last tournament as a Lady Bronco Golfer had the next lowest round, shooting 116. She had four bogeys.
Freshman Hayleigh McConnell, playing in her first Regional Tournament turned in the next lowest round with a 119. She had four bogeys.
Rounding out the scoring for the team on the first day was Sophomore Kaylee Carubelli, also making her Regional Tournament debut with a 121 and Junior Lillie Mikes with a 129. Carubelli had two bogeys and Mikes had three.
Round two began with a much smoother start than the previous day for the team. There were no delays, but the course was very wet from several thunderstorms that passed through the night before. The rain did help soften up the greens some which are notoriously hard to read and do not hold well. The team shot a 442 on the second day. This is the first time a Lady Bronco Golf team has improved on their second day round since the 23-24 District Golf team!
Gonzalez continued her leading of the team, as she has all year, but shooting a good 92 on the 2nd day. Her 92 included four pars. Gonzalez finished the tournament at 43rd individually.
Tillis also improved on her first round score by shooting a 109, just a few strokes short of her personal best. She had one par and six bogeys in her final round. From the start of her golf career, Suellen has lowered her average tournament score by almost twenty strokes.
Carubelli improved her second round as well, this time shooting a 118, which included five bogeys.
Mikes took six strokes off her first round and shot a 123 which included one par and four bogeys. That par came on the last hole of the tournament, showing Lillie's grit and never give up attitude.
Rounding out the scoring was McConnell with a 128, which included four bogeys.
The 2025-2026 Silver Team showed much improvement through the year! All four returners lowered their tournament scoring average over the season. There were a lot of changes coming into and throughout the year, but both golf teams handled them with that 212 spirit. They have already set their goals for next year and what they need to do to reach them. We are looking forward to 6A Golf in 2026-2027!
