The Lake Belton High School Broncos hosted the Leander High School Lions on Tuesday night in a hard-fought five-set battle.

The Broncos got off to a slow start in the opening set, battling service errors and miscommunication that ultimately led to a 19-25 loss. True to their resilient nature, however, the Broncos quickly regrouped and came roaring back. They edged out the Lions 26-24 in set two before taking set three 25-23 to gain a 2-1 lead.

Lake Belton carried that momentum into the fourth set, but errors at the net and defensive miscues at crucial moments kept the Broncos from pulling away. The Lions narrowly claimed the set 28-26, forcing a decisive fifth set.

With the match on the line, Leander came out aggressively and continued to apply pressure. Despite a strong effort from the Broncos, the Lions proved difficult to contain and took the final set 15-10, securing the match victory.

Several Broncos turned in impressive individual performances throughout the battle. Gracie Lott led the team with 13 kills, followed by Aspen Cory with 12 and Ava Wood with 8. Haylee Kasner anchored the defense with 20 digs, while Kamryn Daniels recorded 19 digs and Kenna Morrison added 11. At the net, Makinzi Johnson contributed 4 blocks and Audrey Mughelli added 3. Daniels also led the Broncos' offense with 33 assists.

Despite the loss, the Broncos showed determination and resilience, battling point-for-point and pushing the Lions to the limit in a match that came down to the final set.
