Broncos Rally Past Knights in Five Set Thriller

On Friday night, the Lake Belton Broncos traveled to Harker Heights to face the Knights in the opening match of the second round of District 12-6A play. Harker Heights came out ready for the challenge, forcing the Broncos to overcome some early adversity.

Lake Belton found its footing when it mattered most, battling through a competitive opening set to secure a 25-23 victory. The Knights responded in the second set with renewed confidence, while the Broncos struggled to establish the same rhythm. Harker Heights capitalized, taking the set 25-12 and evening the match at one set apiece.

The Broncos answered with determination in the third set, combining strong offensive execution with relentless defensive play. The back-and-forth battle extended beyond the usual 25 points, but Lake Belton held its composure and ultimately prevailed 28-26. Key momentum shifts and a complete team effort both offensively and defensively helped the Broncos regain the advantage.

Refusing to let the match slip away, the Knights came charging back in the fourth set. Harker Heights maintained consistent pressure throughout the frame, defeating the Broncos 25-20 and forcing a decisive fifth set.

Lake Belton faced another early challenge in the deciding set, but the Broncos responded with poise and determination. After battling back to take the lead, Lake Belton closed out the match with a strong finish, claiming the fifth set 15-9 and earning a hard-fought five-set victory.

Ava Wood and Gracie Lott led the Broncos offensively with 15 kills apiece. Madilyn Jackman added 11 kills, while Kalei Cress finished with nine. Kamryn Daniels paced the offense with 36 assists, with Kylie Morganroth contributing 15.

Defensively, Kruz Smith led Lake Belton with 19 digs, followed by Taylan Cole with 17. Lott and Daniels each recorded 14 digs. At the net, Jackman, Wood and Cress each finished with two blocks, while Audrey Mughelli and Morgan Campbell added one block apiece.

With the road victory secured, the Lake Belton Broncos will return home Tuesday night to host Chaparral.
