The boys' cross country team wrapped up an outstanding season with a strong performance at the UIL Region II Cross Country Championships. Competing against some of the best runners in the region, the boys finished 19th overall as a team, with all five scoring runners recording personal best times.
Leading the way was senior standout Wyatt Potts, who capped off his high school cross country career with a record-breaking performance. Wyatt smashed the school record by an impressive 25 seconds and finished 44th overall in a highly competitive field. His performance was a great way to finish his senior season and leave his mark on the program.
The rest of the team's top five runners also stepped up when it mattered most. Drew Houston, Jack McCullagh, Cooper Schels, and Austin Adams each ran personal best times, helping the team earn its 19th-place finish. Having all five scoring runners achieve personal records at the regional meet was a great accomplishment and showed the hard work and dedication the boys put in throughout the season.
The varsity girls also finished their season on a strong note, placing 21st overall in the region. Leading the way for the ladies was sophomore Keira Dzenowski who finished 114th overall against a talented field of competitors. Also scoring for the girls were Lucy Loa, Shreya Muni, Elizabeth Sandlin, and Mady Rivas, who helped the team earn its regional finish. Adding to the team's success, Lucy, Elizabeth, and Mady each recorded personal best times, showing their continued improvement throughout the season.
The regional meet was a fitting end to a successful season for both teams. From the early morning practices to the challenging workouts and competitive meets, these athletes consistently showed their commitment to improving and pushing one another to be their best. Their hard work paid off with a school record, multiple personal bests, and the district championship for the boys and district runner-up for the girls. Congratulations to a successful season!
