The Lake Belton Varsity Silver and Varsity Red Golf Teams competed in the Bronco Invitational at Wildflower on Monday the 2nd of November. The Varsity Silver team walked away with tournament championship honors posting a team score of 330. The scoring was led by freshman Jett Turner, who took a total of 77 swings on a very challenging course with lightning fast greens! Jett’s best hole
Following close on Jett’s heels, Freshman Hayes Pethtel posted an awesome score of 81. That score included several birdies, including the par five first hole where Hayes’ drive flew 275 yards. His second show wound up green high right, about 20 yards from the hole. Following that he hit a perfect flop shot to eight feet and drained the birdie putt. Coming in behind Hayes, sophomore Jackson Dolotina shot a fantastic 85. While Jackson didn’t have a birdie on the day, he played incredibly steady golf with a total of eight pars and finishing with the same golf ball with which he started; and incredible feat on a course with an incredible amount of out of bounds lines! Sophomore Heston Seideman’s score of 87 placed fourth on the team. Heston fought a balky driver all day and never quit fighting until the round was over. Senior Kaden Beaty’s score of 98 rounded out the team, battling the course and wind until the very end.
The Varsity Red team finished the tournament with a team total of 378. The team featured several golfers playing in their first tournament of the season after giving their all on the gridiron for the last three months. The team was led by Sophomore Jacob Sullivan who posted a great score of 88. That 88 include winning the “Closest to the Pin” contest where he hit his tee shot to within five feet of the hole. Jacob made his birdie putt and took home a great trophy for a great shot. Sophomore Carter Johnson’s score of 90 strokes placed him second on the team. Coming in third on the team, sophomore Cole Russel kept his score under the century mark by posting a solid 97. Freshman Barrett Kennon, playing in his first ever high school tournament, shot a solid 103. Sophomore Acelin Wycoff took a total of 105 swings to round out the team score.
The Varsity Red team will play again at Delaware Springs Golf Course on November the 16th while the Varsity Silver team will next paly at Eagle’s Bluff Country Club in Bullard on December the 7th.
