The Lady Bronco Red Team and Bronco Medalists started their Spring season on Monday at the Temple Girls Valentine's Tournament. It was played at Sammons in Temple. The girls faced a brutal, cold wind all morning, but played well in their first tournament back.
The 7th place finish was behind Cameron Yoe, as well as two schools from Austin High. The Red Team was competitive with district foes Ellison, University, and Belton High, which should make for a great showdown at the end of March.
Lady Bronco Red was led by freshman Lyliana Gonzalez with a 105. Her score tied her for 11th place out of over 90 girls. Senior Da Hae Keum was the second best scorer for the Red Team with a 113, which was 10 strokes better than her previous personal best. Lillie Mikes, freshman, also had a new personal best, shooting a 114, which was also 10 strokes better. Senior Emily Delgado and Junior Lexie Holler finished out the scoring for the Red Team, both shooting 119. It was also the lowest round of golf Holler has had.
Sophomore Nena Tamarez and Freshman Suellen Tillis competed as Bronco Medalists. Tamarez set a personal best at 123. It was Tillis's first time playing in a tournament.
Lady Bronco Red Team and Bronco Medalists will play again on February 28 in Bastrop at ColoVista. Lady Bronco Silver will play on Friday and Saturday, February 16 & 17, at Cottonwood in Waco.
