Lake Belton Girls Basketball are Bi-District Champs

On February 12, in an anticipated first round playoff game, the stage was set for a showdown of epic proportions as the Lake Belton Broncos squared off against the formidable Montgomery Bears in the first round of playoffs. With Montgomery boasting a formidable 10-game winning streak, the Broncos knew they had their work cut out for them. Yet, fueled by determination and a relentless spirit, Lake Belton surged to a thrilling 60-52 victory.

From the opening tip-off, it was evident that neither team was willing to cede an inch of ground. The first quarter unfolded with the tension palpable in the air, each possession fiercely contested. In a testament to the Broncos' resilience, they emerged with a narrow 11-10 lead, laying the foundation for what promised to be a fiercely contested battle.

As the game progressed into the second quarter, the intensity only intensified. Lake Belton continued to showcase their offensive prowess, with timely baskets keeping them a step ahead of their opponents. Despite the Bears' determined efforts, the Broncos managed to widen the gap, heading into halftime with a 27-21 advantage, buoyed by their unyielding spirit and unwavering determination.

However, the halftime respite served as a rallying cry for the Montgomery Bears, who emerged from the locker room with renewed vigor. The third quarter witnessed a dramatic shift in momentum, as the Bears clawed their way back into contention, outscoring Lake Belton 21-16 and narrowing the deficit to a mere point. With the outcome hanging in the balance, the Broncos knew they had to dig deep to withstand the onslaught.

Entering the decisive fourth quarter, the tension reached a fever pitch as both teams traded blows in a frenetic display of athleticism and skill. Despite facing a brief deficit early in the quarter, Lake Belton refused to relent, summoning their collective resolve to mount a stirring comeback. Led by standout performances from Cassidy Gladney with 18 points, 6 rebounds and 4 steals. Ella Wagenaar had 14 points and 14 rebounds. Angie Deleon added 9 points. The Broncos surged ahead in the closing minutes, ultimately clinching a hard-fought 60-52 victory.

As the final buzzer sounded, Lake Belton fans reverberated with jubilant cheers, echoing the triumph of a team united in purpose and driven by an unshakeable belief in their abilities. With their Bi-District championship secured, the Broncos now turn their gaze towards the next challenge that awaits them on their playoff journey. Armed with resilience, determination, and a relentless hunger for success, Lake Belton stands poised to continue their march towards glory, fueled by the enduring spirit of champions.
