Lady Bronco Golf Silver Team played in the Waco ISD Girls Spring Invitational at Cottonwood Creek Golf Course in Waco on Friday and Saturday.
It was two completely different days in completely different conditions for the team. Friday was cool in the morning and warm in the afternoon with a slight breeze. Saturday was 38 degrees with 20 mile an hour wind. Due to the cold temperatures, Saturday's round was shortened to 9 holes with a later tee time.
On Friday, Silver Team showed that they had knocked off the rust that showed itself in the first tournament back by shooting a 397. They were tied for 7th at the end of the day. Freshman Carly Marshall lead the Silver Team and the field after day one by shooting a superb two over par 74, which included two birdies. She had a 4 stroke lead. Senior Shelby Chaney had the second best score for Lady Bronco Silver shooting a 105 followed by Junior Riley Clawson with a 106. Junior Katherine Moore and Sophomore Jackie Couture bounced back from their first tournament on the Silver Team by both shooting 112.
With the brutal weather conditions on Saturday, scores went up for all players in the field. The round was also shortened to 9 holes. Silver Team shot a 211 on day 2. They were able to hold on and tie for 7th place with China Spring. Every school, with the exception of one, that placed above Lake was 6A.
Marshall struggled in the wind as well, shooting 6 over par 44, but was able to extend her lead to seven strokes and finished the tournament ten over par and the champion.
Clawson finished the tournament 34th and improved upon her back nine from Friday by three strokes. Chaney, Moore, and Couture all shot 58 on Saturday. Chaney finished 39th, and Moore and Couture tied for 48th individually.
Lady Bronco Silver will play again on Wednesday, February 21 at Star Ranch in Hutto. The unpredictable Texas weather may again be a factor, with a predicted high of 82. Lady Bronco Red and Bronco Teams will be in action again on Wednesday, February 28 at ColoVista in Bastrop.
