Lake Boys Track shows promise, solid start at WAMM Relays

The Lake Belton Boys Track & Field team competed in their first meet last Thursday in Manor. The Varsity boys would finish as the runner up and the JV would go on to win the meet.

The varsity would get scoring started from Julian Walker winning the long jump (21'11"). Adam Walden would also win one of his events, tossing the shot put 48'10.5" Walden would also score points in the Discus finishing 2nd (130'4") and Travellis Harrison would take 3rd (121'0.5"). Xavier Wells would make his High Jump debut a good one, winning with a leap of 6-4. Walker would finish 3rd with a 6-0 jump.

In the running events the 4x400 meter relay team (Joey Read, Zy Thomas, Davion Peters, Xavier Wells) and 4x200 meter relay team (Davion Peters, Ty Legg, Caleb Jeffreys, Joey Read) both finished 2nd in the event. Zy Thomas brung home two silvers in both the 110 and 300 meter hurdles. Josh Mallard would finish 3rd overall in the 100 meter dash to close out the top scorers for the Broncos.

The JV Broncos would dominate the field from start to finish, never trailing in the meet regardless of event outcomes. Allen Muchunu would bring home two golds in both the long jump (19'11") and high jump (5-8) . Jacob Johnson (37'9") and Brett Harmon (37'2.5") both went 1 and 2 in the shot put, while Aisea Filitonga (107'1") and Colton Crocker (104'4") went 2 and 3.

The 4x100 (Cooper Arnold, Zach Dodd, Tekoa Martin, Zion Harness), 4x200 (Zach Dodd, Tekoa Martin, Cavan Pilkington, Zion Harness), and 4x400 (Cavan Pilkington, Zach Dodd, Zack Summy, Keaton Washington) ran away in smooth fashion, taking home gold medals in all three events. Zion Harness, Keaton Washington, and Zack Summy would also take home golds in the 200 meter dash, 400 meter dash, and 300 meter hurdles. Summy and Noah Stevens would go 2 and 3 in the 110 meter hurdles, and Leo Piedra would close out the top point getters for the Broncos with a 3rd place finish in the 800 meter run.

Overall, the Broncos put a strong performance and shows some promise as the season is just getting started. The Broncos will be back out in competition on Saturday, February 24 at the Round Rock Quad Meet.
