This past weekend, the powerlifting team of Lake Belton High School competed at the State Powerlifting Meet held in Frisco, Texas. Competitors Madyson Updyke, Victoria Shimabukuro, and Jaya Lisenbe, representing Lake Belton, proved that rankings are just numbers by delivering outstanding performances against the state's best.
Entering the competition, none of the Lake Belton lifters were ranked in the top ten in their respective weight classes. By the time the final lifts were completed, all three athletes had not only surpassed expectations but also set new personal records.
Madyson Updyke, a senior, competing in her weight class, clinched the 10th spot with a remarkable 25-pound increase in her overall weight lifted. Victoria Shimabukuro, another senior, secured the 6th position overall. Shimabukuro added 45 pounds to her total weight lifted. Jaya Lisenbe, a sophomore, finished 7th in her weight class. Lisenbe improved her total by 30 pounds
The success of Updyke, Shimabukuro, and Lisenbe at the State Powerlifting Meet is a testament to their hard work and perseverance. Their achievements have not only brought pride to their school but also set a high standard for future athletes.
