The Lake Belton boys track & field team competed in the Area Championships last Thursday at Magnolia High School and did not disappoint.
Things started to roll early, as senior Adam Walden would earn a bronze in the Shot Put to advance to the Regional round. Junior Xavier Wells was up next to punch his ticket to Regionals, finishing 2nd with a leap of 6-4 in the High Jump. In the Discus event, junior Caleb Loper would connect on one of his later throws to put him in 3rd place and a new PR of 146'1 as he heads to Regionals. Sophomore Carson Yandell would join the group of guys advancing to Regionals by taking the 4th place spot in the Pole Vault. Sophomore Kendrick Jones Jr would close out the field events with a new school record Long Jump of 24'5".
In the running events, Jones Jr would take silver in the 100 meter dash to advance to Regionals. Later on in the 200, Jones Jr would respond differently as he earned gold this time around, making it 3 events that he qualified for Regionals in. Freshman Keaton Washington would finish 7th in the 400 meter dash, but earned another opportunity this week at Regionals with some scratches from the event.
The Lake boys would finish the meet 4th overall, and look forward to competing in the 5A - Region III Championships on April 19th-20th.
