The Lady Bronco Golf Silver Team competed at the 5A Region III Tournament at Margaritaville in Conroe on Wednesday and Thursday, April 17 and 18.
Lady Bronco Golf has qualified for the Regional Tournament all four years of existence of the school. This is the second time they have qualified in 5A.
On day one, of the tournament, anxiousness plagued most of the team on the front nine, but settled in by the back nine.
Freshman Lyliana Gonzalez was the first off for Lake and hit a beautiful drive right down the middle of the fairway. She shot a 105 on the first day which included one par and six bogeys.
Senior Shelby Chaney was next up for Lake. She had one par and one bogey on day one.
Kat Moore, junior, was the next up. Moore shot a 97. She had two pars and ten bogeys.
Next up for the Lady Broncos was Junior Riley Clawson. She had a great first tee shot, as well. She had a 95 for the day that included six pars and six bogeys.
Last to tee off for Lake on Wednesday was Freshman Carly Marshall. Marshall hit a perfect drive off the tee to start her round. She shot an 80 on day one.
After the first round, the Lady Broncos wanted to improve upon their performance. They shot a 377 and were in 4th place. They knew a trip to the State Tournament was on the line and would need to make up some big ground to qualify. They held onto fourth by just two strokes over Barbers Hill and were 41 strokes out of third.
Day two started out better for Lake and all golfers but one had a better front nine than the previous day. But the long season started taking it's toll and several Lady Broncos began battling some nagging soreness that affected their game.
When the day was over, Senior Shelby Chaney, playing her last round of golf as a Lady Bronco, improved ten strokes on her first day, which included six bogeys.
Gonzalez shot a 107 on day two with two pars and five bogeys.
Moore shot 100 with one par and nine bogeys.
Clawson had a 98. She had four pars and eight bogeys.
Marshall had shot a 76.
On day two Lake had a 381 with a two day total 758. They finished in 5th place, 12 strokes behind Barbers Hill and 24 strokes ahead of 24.
The 758 that the Lady Broncos shot was a new 2 day record for the team. Their previous record was set in 2021 at Hancock Park and Delaware Springs.
Clawson and Moore also set new personal best two day totals.
The 5th Place finish was the best finish for Lake Belton in 5A. Last year they finished 8th.
