The Lady Broncos traveled to Copperas Cove this weekend for the Copperas Cove Sub-Varsity Volleyball Tournament. The Lady Broncos finished strong with a 5-1 performance, tying several teams for the best overall tournament record. On day one, the Lady Broncos would match up against Temple, Copperas Cove, and Chaparral. The Lady Broncos would win their first match of the day taking down the Lady Wildcats of Temple in two sets, 25-11 and 25-23. The Lady Broncos would take down the Lady Dawgs of Copperas Cove in the second match 25-18 and 25-16. In game three, the Lady Broncos would win the first set, but fall to the Lady Bobcats of Chaparral over the next two sets 25-14, 23-25, and 12-15.
Game 1 Notes: On the offensive attack, Natalia Partida and Blaine Foster delivered an outstanding performance serving the ball, both accounting for multiple aces. Jaylee Hudson, Gemma Pierce, and Kristen Morales provided stellar defensive plays with numerous digs. Abbi Jones was dominate on the attack, overpowered the oppositions defense and leaving them consistently scrambling to react.
Game 2 Notes: Offensive standouts would include, Natalia Partida on the serve and Rielyn Collins and Madi Jackman on the attack. Audrey Mughelli outplayed the Lady Dawgs defensive with multiple strategically place tips.
Game 3 Notes: Offensively, Blaine Foster and Natalia Partida stood out with multiple assists. Jenna Armstrong, Abbi Jones, and Madi Jackman would take full advantage of the great sets on the offensive attack. Natalia Partida also had a team leading eight digs on the defensive side.
The Lady Broncos would come out energized on day two of the tournament. The Lady Broncos would finish with a clean sweep taking down Shoemaker 25-18 and 25-17, District Rivals Belton High in a tough match up 21-25, 25-22, and 15-11, and Ellison 25-16 and 25-16.
Game 4 Notes: Offensively, Kruz Smith's serves were precisely placed, targeting the defenses weak spots, resulting in multiple aces. Natalia Partida continued to feed the hungry hitters as Abbi Jones led the offensive attack with eleven kills. Jaylee Hudson and Kristen Morales would lead the defense in back row digs.
Game 5 Notes: Offensively, Kristen Morales would step up big from the service line, as she found a way to continuously serve the ball over the net in high pressured situations. Madi Jackman would accounted for several big aces as well. Abbi Jones was an offensive powerhouse, making it nearly impossible for the opponents defense to block or defend against her attacks. Abbi Jones would improve on her previous performance, with her tournament high thirteen kills. Of course, none of this could have been accomplished with out consistent passes from Libero Cruz Smith and setters Blaine Foster and Natalia Partida. Defensively, the Lady Tigers struggled to adjust to the big block of Micah Williams.
Game 3 Notes: Offensively, the Lady Broncos were dominate on the service line. Abbi Jones and Madi Jackman served the ball with authority giving the defense little time to react. Outside of all of the big hits Rielyn Collins and Madi Jackman found ways to tip the balls perfectly in the right place. Gemma Pierce neutralize the defensive attack with several key digs.
Overall, it was a very strong weekend for the Lady Broncos Junior Varsity Volleyball team, and as in most tournaments, their key to success was contributed to a total team effort. The Lady Broncos are off to a great start in their tournament season. The Lady Broncos are scheduled to play a home game this Tuesday night against Robinson on Go Gold Night. They Lady Broncos will then compete in their second tournament of three next weekend in the Belton ISD Sub-Varsity Tournament.
