The Lake Belton Junior Varsity Red football team took on the Killeen Kangaroos in their home opener. Despite returning to play on a short week, the Broncos were determined to showcase their brand of football.
Captains Xji’anthony Thomas and Jayden Cervantes led the team with exceptional leadership both on and off the field. The game began with a strong offensive performance, led by quarterbacks Jayden Dent and Ke’odderick Mayo. The run game, spearheaded by Jack Maybee, effectively controlled the clock. The wide receiver core, including Kaleb Firmin, Aidan Butler, and Braiden Reich, made explosive plays to support the offense. Ke’odderick Mayo also contributed with successful running and a score. Hudson Jez had a successful day with extra point tries. Despite Killeen's formidable offensive unit, the Broncos' defense dominated the line of scrimmage. Cohen Beaird, Peyton Parcus, and Joseph Casmus disrupted plays in the backfield, while Aj Peter's pass break ups limited the Killeen receivers' opportunities.
The Broncos secured a comprehensive 27-0 victory, showcasing a complete team effort in all aspects of the game. The team will have a bye week before beginning district play.
