Lady Bronco Golf Silver began their 2024-2025 season on Tuesday, September 17. They traveled to Tanglewood Resort in Pottsboro, Texas for the Lady Stinger Tournament.
Lake Belton High moved into Class 5A Region II in the most recent UIL alignment. Tanglewood Resort, on Lake Texoma, will be the site of the 5A Region II Tournament in April. This was a great opportunity for the golfers to see and play a new course to them and new competition.
Silver Team faired well in their first tournament of the season. They shot a 389, just ten strokes out of 3rd place, finishing 5th.
Sophomore Carly Marshall had a great tournament! She shot a new school record 69, which was three under par. It is the lowest score and lowest under par a Lady Bronco golfer has had. She broke her own record of 70 (-1) from last February at Star Ranch. Marshall had an eagle and four birdies on the day. She also had a near pitch in from the sand after the ball hit the flagstick and ran past.
Carly won the tournament by a whopping six strokes!
Katherine Moore, senior, had a good tournament as well. She finished 22nd overall and shot a 99. Kat had a massive drive on number 8 and almost drove the green. The Diamond Zoysia grass greens at Tanglewood gave Kat some trouble. She would hit great shots into the green near the hole, but the greens wouldn't hold the shots and often left her with long putts for birdie and par. She parred one hole on the day.
Lyliana Gonzalez, Sophomore, turned in the third best score for the Silver Team. She had two pars for the day and shot a 104. She finished 27th overall.
Sophomore Lillie Mikes made her Silver Team debut at the Lady Stinger Tournament. She finished 43rd overall and had a great chip in par on number 1!
Suellen Tillis, a junior, also made her Silver Team debut at this tournament. Tillis finished 48th individually.
It was a great first tournament for the Silver Team. Each team member shot below their tournament average from the previous year.
The Silver Team will be in action again on Tuesday, September 24 at the Ellison Tournament at Stonetree Golf Club in Killeen. The Red Team will begin their season at the same tournament.
The Bronco Team will be playing in The Novice Cup at Blackhawk in Pflugerville on Monday, September 23.
