Lake Belton High School | 11/5/2024

The Lake Belton Lady Broncos Junior Varsity basketball team had an impressive performance on the court Tuesday night, overpowering the Killeen Lady Roos 58-31. From the opening tip, the Lady Broncos showcased their strength and skill, putting on a dominant display of teamwork and defense.

Fast Start Propels Lady Broncos

Right from the first quarter, the Lady Broncos came out with intensity and firepower. They wasted no time in asserting their dominance, outscoring the Lady Roos 24-3 in the opening frame. The Broncos' defense stifled the Roos’ offense, forcing turnovers and limiting their scoring opportunities. Meanwhile, Lake Belton’s offense was clicking on all cylinders, capitalizing on fast breaks and efficiently running their plays.

Lady Roos Fight Back in the Second Quarter

Despite the early setback, the Lady Roos showed resilience in the second quarter. They managed to find their rhythm and clawed their way back into the game by outscoring the Broncos 14-10 in the period. Killeen's defensive adjustments helped slow down Lake Belton’s offense, and their hustle on the boards allowed them to gain a few extra possessions. At halftime, the score stood at 34-17 in favor of the Broncos, but the Lady Roos had shown that they weren’t going to back down without a fight.

Lady Broncos Maintain Control After the Break

Coming out of the break, the Lady Broncos refocused and returned to their dominant ways. They increased their lead to 47-26 heading into the fourth quarter, continuing to dictate the pace of the game with stifling defense and quick offensive execution. The Lady Roos couldn't keep up with Lake Belton's depth and energy as the game progressed, allowing the Broncos to extend their advantage even further.

Balanced Scoring Leads to a 58-31 Victory

In the final frame, the Broncos held their ground, finishing strong and securing the 58-31 victory. A balanced scoring effort was a key to the Lady Broncos' success, with five different players contributing to the point total.

Ja'Niah Ford led the way with 16 points, showcasing her ability to score both inside and from the perimeter. Zoey Johnson added 10 points, providing a steady offensive presence throughout the game. Jade Fulton chipped in 8 points, playing a crucial role in both the scoring and defensive efforts. Meanwhile, Keyalah Bradley and Cheyann Oglesby both contributed 6 points each, helping to round out the team’s well-rounded performance.

Looking Ahead

The Lady Broncos' win against the Lady Roos was a testament to their depth and the growth of their young talent. With a strong start to the season and plenty of promise, the Lady Broncos are looking forward to building on this victory and continuing to improve as they progress through their schedule.

For Killeen, the team will no doubt take this game as a learning experience, focusing on their resilience and adjusting to the pressure of high-paced games moving forward.

The Lady Bronco JV team will be back in action on Tuesday November 12 at 5:30 at LaVega High School.
