Sophomore Lady Bronco Golfer Carly Marshall competed in the 5A State Preview on Friday and Saturday, November 8 and 9 at Legacy Hills Golf Course in Georgetown. Legacy Hills will be the site of the 5A State Golf Tournament in April.
This tournament was a chance for hopeful golfers to play the course before the state tournament. It featured some of the best golf teams and golfers in 5A in the state of Texas.
On Friday, Marshall played conservatively to start out. She was paired with a golfers from Highland Park and Frisco Centennial, both of which are in Lake Belton's Region.
After 9 holes she was +2. After 9 she began to play more aggressively and was able to get to as low as -1. After a couple of misjudgments, she finished the first round in fifth place after shooting a one over par 73. She had 3 birdies on the day. She hit 12 out of 14 fairways and 11 out of 18 greens.
Saturday's day 2 started off with a much cooler start than the muggy day on Friday. For the second round she was paired with golfers from Bastrop and Granbury, As it was the first day, she finished her first nine at +2 on the day and was able to finish the tournament by shooting a +2 74 for the round. She was +3 for the tournament. She had two birdies, hit 11 greens, and 11 of 14 fairways on day two.
Her +3 for the tournament landed her in 4th place, one stroke out of 3rd place, two out of 2nd, and 6th out of first. It was a great tournament and good look at what the future could hold.
This tournament ends Marshall and the LBHS Silver Team's Fall season. They will be back in action in February at the Region II Preview at Tanglewood Resort in Pottsboro. The Bronco Team has also concluded their Fall Season. The Red Team will finish out their fall season on Wednesday, November 13 at the HOT Invitational at Cottonwood Creek Golf Course in Waco.
