In a hard-fought game on January 7, the Lake Belton Lady Broncos traveled to face the Ellison High Lady Eagles in a key district matchup. Despite their efforts, the Lady Broncos were unable to overcome a slow start, falling 61-33 to the Lady Eagles.

The Lady Broncos struggled in the opening quarter, scoring just three points while Ellison came out strong, building a 14-3 lead. However, Lake Belton regrouped in the second quarter, outscoring Ellison 15-11, with standout contributions from Natalie Maldonado and Layla King. Heading into halftime, the Lady Broncos trailed 25-18, keeping the game within reach.

The second half, however, saw the Lady Eagles reassert control, with a strong defensive effort limiting the Lady Broncos to just seven points in the third quarter. Ellison capitalized on turnovers and rebounding opportunities to extend their lead. Despite a valiant effort in the fourth quarter, including contributions from Ariella Polley and Amara Sanchez, the Lady Broncos couldn’t close the gap.

Natalie Maldonado and Layla King led Lake Belton’s scoring with seven points apiece, while Ariella Polley and Amara Sanchez added six points each. Alexa King contributed with five points and played a key role on the boards, grabbing eight defensive rebounds. The team’s defensive intensity showed flashes of promise, with Alexa King and Natalie Maldonado combining for five steals.

Although the Lady Broncos ultimately fell short, the game offered valuable lessons as they look ahead to the rest of the district schedule. The loss puts Lake Belton at 1-1 in district play, but the team remains optimistic about their chances moving forward.

The Lady Broncos will return to the court on January 10 for a home game against Waco High. Tip-off is set for 7 p.m., and the team is eager to bounce back in front of their home crowd. With determination and focus, the Lady Broncos are ready to turn the page and continue their push for success in district play.
