On January 24, the Lake Belton Lady Broncos took on the Ellison Lady Eagles in a hard-fought district matchup at home. Despite their determined efforts, the Lady Broncos fell 39-31 in a game marked by defensive grit and strategic runs.
The Lady Broncos got off to a promising start, outscoring Ellison 13-12 in the first quarter. However, the momentum shifted in the second quarter as the Lady Eagles tightened their defense, holding Lake Belton to just six points while edging ahead 19-18 by halftime.
The Lady Broncos showed resilience in the third quarter, tallying 10 points to stay in the fight. Yet, Ellison’s fourth-quarter surge proved too much to overcome, as they pulled away to seal the win.
Alexa King led Lake Belton in scoring with 11 points, including a three-pointer and two crucial free throws. Natalie Maldonado added 10 points and dished out four assists, demonstrating her playmaking ability. Ariella Polley contributed five points. Defensively, the team showed flashes of brilliance with Polley leading in deflections and King securing five rebounds.
This loss moves the Lady Broncos to 5-2 in district play. They’ll look to bounce back on January 28 when they travel to Waco High to face the Waco Lady Lions at 7 p.m.
As the district race heats up, the Lady Broncos remain focused on their goal of making a strong playoff push.
