Abilene, Texas – In a display of raw strength and determination, Lake Belton’s Christian Morales and Bret Harmon left it all on the platform at the Texas High School Powerlifting State Meet, proving to star amongst states best.

Brett Harmon: Competing against the toughest lifters in the state, Harmon delivered a gutsy performance in the 275 weight class, posting impressive numbers in the squat, bench press, and deadlift. Though the competition was fierce, Harmon’s focus and work ethic were on full display as he battled for every pound. Bret finished with a total of 1600 and a 29th place finish.

Christian Morales: While the road to state was one that Christian knew well, Morales performance cemented his reputation as a lifter to watch. Christian and his relentless effort embodies the spirit of Texas high school powerlifting. Christian set personal best with each lift enroute to an outstanding lift in the deadlift along with a 2nd place overall finish.

Behind the Scenes: What Makes This Team Special
Success on the platform doesn’t happen overnight. It’s the result of countless hours of preparation, a supportive parents/coaching staff, and a culture of camaraderie.
Coaches emphasized the importance of teamwork: “These athletes push each other every day. They celebrate each other’s victories and lift each other up after setbacks. That’s what makes this team so special.”
Team leaders echoed this sentiment: “We’re like a family. When one of us succeeds, we all succeed. That’s the mindset that drives us to be our best.”
Beyond the medals and trophies, these athletes are building lifelong skills: discipline, resilience, and the ability to rise to any challenge. Whether they’re on the platform or in the classroom, the lessons they’ve learned through powerlifting will serve them well in the years to come.
