In a game where every pitch carried weight, the Lake Belton Varsity Broncos fell just short on Friday, dropping a 3-2 heartbreaker to the China Spring Varsity Cougars. While both teams showcased elite command in the circle, China Spring found the timely hits needed to escape with the narrow victory.
Lilliana Herrera started the contest, grinding through 3.1 innings. She allowed just two hits and two earned runs while striking out two.
Natalie Hosch provided a stellar relief appearance, tossing 3.2 innings of one-run ball. Hosch surrendered four hits and fanned three, keeping Lake Belton within striking distance until the final out.
Lake Belton’s offense utilized its speed to pressure the Cougars' defense, racking up five stolen bases. Alexis Walker led the charge with two swipes, joined by Kalea Travis, Maliyah Gooden, and Nani Rubio.
Despite the hustle, the Broncos struggled to find the "big hit." The team finished the day hitting just .125 with runners in scoring position, leaving critical runs on the table.
Hits: Avery Park, Briley Updyke, Brysen Gott, and Maliyah Gooden each recorded a hit.
RBI Production: Brysen Gott contributed a sacrifice fly to help the scoring effort.
The Lake Belton Varsity Broncos won’t have much time to dwell on their close loss to China Spring. They are set to return home this Friday, March 13, to face off against a powerhouse Weiss Wolves team in a highly anticipated non-district clash.
