This week the Lake Belton Boys Varsity soccer team went to Georgetown Texas to compete in the prestigious Governor's Cup. This would be the first time the schools team has competed in this event. Three days, three games, three different opponents from all over Texas.

Thursday January 4th the Broncos took on the highly competitive Marble Falls at 2:30. The Broncos won the possession battle leading to many shots on target during the first half. Playing solid defense and passing the ball well the Broncos went into halftime with a score of 0-0. The second half the Broncos came out with energy and kept the pace up the entire game. Unfortunately, the Mustangs found the back of the net with only 4 minutes left ending the game in a 0-1 defeat for the Lake Belton boys. Standouts during this game were the entire defensive line as they set the tone early (Ayden Renfrow, Holden Brown, Cole Francis, Ben Asuncion-Crabb, and Nathan Sanders)

Friday January 5th the Broncos were back in action against the Leander Rouse Raiders. Morning start time, cold weather, rain, it did not matter for the Broncos boys as they came prepared to play. The Broncos battled to another 0-0 halftime unfortunately allowing two goals in the second half leading to a 0-2 defeat. Standouts during this game were Caden Ortiz who made his first varsity start as a sophomore goalkeeper.

Saturday January 6th the Lake Belton soccer team took the field against Plfugerville Hendrickson in an afternoon kickoff time. Two minutes into the game Branson Greger scored off of an assist by Nathan Ogden. The tone was set and the Broncos were fired up. Seventeen minutes in the Hendrickson Hawks equaled the score with a goal of their own making the halftime score 1-1. The Broncos had been in this similar situation the past two days. This time the Broncos were determined to have a different fate. During the second half the Broncos increased their possession and their shots leading them to a 1-1 final.

Three competitive games in a row has only grown the desire and passion for greatness amongst these Bronco Soccer players. They will take the field next Thursday, Friday and Saturday in the Waco Tournament.
