Lady Bronco Silver and Red Teams competed in the District 22-5A Golf Tournament on Monday and Tuesday, March 25 and 26 at Stonetree Golf Course in Killeen. Lady Bronco Silver was looking to defend their district title and advance to the Regional Tournament for the fourth consecutive year.
Warm up was delayed on day one of the tournament due to lightning in the area, but that didn't stop the team from going out and building a solid lead. After the first round they had a 27 stroke lead and shot 388.
Freshman Carly Marshall led the way for the team and for the tournament on the first day shooting a fantastic two under par, 70. She had five birdies on the day, included a great chip in birdie on 7. This tied Marshall's personal best low round of her career and the record low round for Lady Bronco Golf.
Junior Kat Moore had the second lowest score for the Silver Team on day 1 with a 101. She had two pars and was in 3rd place individually.
Freshman Lyliana Gonzalez fired a 104. She had a near hole in one on number 7 that resulted in a birdie.
Junior Riley Clawson had two pars and shot a 113 and Senior Shelby Chaney had a 122 and one par.
Day two of the tournament brought a drop in temperatures but plenty of sunshine.
Marshall again led the team. This time she shot a one over par 73, which included 4 birdies. She finished the tournament with a one under par 143. That two day score is four strokes better than her previous two day round at Legacy Hills earlier this year. It also sets a new two day round record for Lady Bronco Golf. She won the individual championship by a whopping 36 strokes.
Moore had two pars and fired a 99 on day two. Her 200 total was a new personal best for her for two days. It also put her in a tie for third individually. She came home with fourth after a playoff hole.
Gonzalez's 99 on day two was a new personal best for her. She had 4 pars on day 2. Her previous personal best was a 102 that she shot at Stonetree earlier this year. This was her first time to play a two day tournament and her two day total of 203 was enough for fifth place individually.
Clawson shot a 109 on day 2 with four pars and earned a 10th place individual finish.
Chaney had one par and shot 115.
The total for day two was 380. All golfers but one improved their score on day two.
The team total after two days was 768, defeating the second place team by 50 strokes.
Marshall, Moore, Gonzalez, and Clawson all earned All-District award. Chaney was named to an Honorable Mention All-District Team.
The Silver Team will be playing in the Regional Championship at Margaritaville in Conroe on April 17 and 18.
