The L.B.H.S. Varsity Silver Golf Team has once again captured a district championship. The championship tournament was held at Stonetree Golf Course on March 27th and 28th. Day one of the tournament was filled with drama and excitement as the boys got off to a first day eight stroke lead over Belton High School. The drama came from one of the Broncos almost being disqualified for signing an incorrect score card. In typical Bronco fashion, it was the golfer who signed for the score card that brought the potential infraction to light. In the tradition and spirit of the game the Bronco golfer had called the penalty on himself. After consultations with the U.S.G.A. the golfer was not disqualified, but had to accept the higher score for which he signed. The Broncos were led by Senior James Bond the first day shooting a stellar one under par 71. Right behind James, Junior Nick Brooks shot a personal tournament best 75. Sophomore Jackson Null followed Nick turning in a 76 on his score card. Sophomore Miles Parker was one stroke behind Jackson tuning in a great 77 for his first round. The team score of 299 was rounded out by Senior Mason Euer who shot a nice 83. The second day of the tournament opened up with the Bronco’s first team goal still in front of them. That second day featured considerably less drama, but did not lack for excitement. The boys got off to a great start and set a pace for other teams to follow. The second day of the tournament featured Jackson shooting a fantastic bogie free 67, which set a new school record low round. Jackson would go on to post a two day score of 134 to win the individual championship by one stroke over Belton High School senior Kason Wolfe. Miles finished day two with a great 74 and a total 151, which earned him a fourth place finish in the district tournament. James’ excellent second day total of 75 was good for a tournament score of 146 and a third place finish in district. Nick Brooks’ day two score of 79 and over-all tournament score of 154 was good for a sixth place district finish. Mason shaved his day one score by two strokes to shoot an 81 with a tournament score of 164 and an 8th place finish in the tournament. The district victory earns the boys a fourth straight trip to the regional tournament, which will be held at Margaritaville Resort in Montgomery on April 15th and 16th. In addition to the Varsity Silver team making it to Margaritaville the Broncos will be taking the two regional qualifiers as medalists. Junior Rawley Soliz, who shot identical 84s each day of the tournament for a total of 184 and Junior Hudson Nix who went 86 and 84 respectively for a final tournament score of 170 will be traveling to the Margaritaville course to compete as individuals representing District 22-5A.
