In a highly anticipated matchup, the Lake Belton Broncos faced off against the formidable Lake Travis Cavaliers in a game that began with promise but ended in disappointment for the Broncos. After an evenly matched first half, the Broncos couldn’t keep pace, ultimately falling 33-14.
The Broncos struck first, with quarterback Caleb Luke finding Aiden Alezy for the game’s opening touchdown. Luke continued the momentum, running in the two-point conversion to give Lake Belton an early 8-0 lead. However, Lake Travis quickly responded, closing the gap to 8-7 with a touchdown of their own.
Lake Belton’s offense continued to shine in the first half, as Luke connected with Julian Martinez on a long pass that set the Broncos up at the 1-yard line. Layton Evans punched it in for a rushing touchdown, extending the lead to 14-7. The Broncos went for another two-point conversion but fell short, leaving the door open for Lake Travis. The Cavaliers capitalized, driving down the field to tie the game at 14-14 just before halftime.
The second half, however, was all Lake Travis. Despite a valiant effort from the Broncos’ defense, Lake Travis controlled the game, putting up 19 unanswered points and shutting down Lake Belton’s offense. The game ended with a 33-14 victory for the Cavaliers.
Julian Martinez was the leading receiver for Lake Belton, hauling in 2 catches for 58 yards. Caleb Luke had an impressive 112 passing yards, including a touchdown pass. Adler Alezy contributed 42 rushing yards, while Jameson Early led the defense with 4 tackles. Thanh Nguyen added 3 tackles, with Aiden Walker and Jonas Bowers each making key defensive plays.
The Broncos showed heart and skill in the first half but were unable to match Lake Travis in the second. Despite the loss, there were promising performances, and the team will look to bounce back in their matchup next Wednesday where they travel to Brownwood to take on the Lions.
