In the season finale, our Lake Belton Junior Varsity Red football team faced off against the China Spring Cougars on the road. Captains Jack Maybee and Blake Baty displayed exemplary leadership throughout the game.
The offense showed promise at the start of the game, moving the chains effectively both on the ground and through the air. However, costly penalties hindered early scoring opportunities. The Broncos found success with quarterbacks Jayden Dent and Ke’odderick Mayo, as well as strong blocking both upfront and on the perimeter. Jack Maybee scored the first touchdown with an impressive 80-yard run, followed by successful point after by Hudson Jez. The team continued to score with runs from Jayden Dent and Richard Groves, with Hudson Jez adding the extra points.
The defense also shined, with tackles for losses by Joseph Casmus, Peyton Parcus, Blake Baty, Levi Crotty, and Keagan Hedrick. Sacks were made by Cohen Beaird, Jeffery Gonzales, Prince Kabuya, and Brendan Nash. Jamari Haye's interception set up the offense for success.
In the second half, standout plays were made by Aiden Butler, Caleb Firmin, Joshua Torres, Austin Dodd, Sebastian Dolcines, and Jamari Haye. The offensive line, led by Luke Cowan, Xji’anthony Thomas, Syhr Jones, Damion Wildes, Ross Odell, and Jayden Cervantes, dominated the line of scrimmage. Jayden Dent finished the final drive with a 7-yard run for the Broncos' last score, with Hudson Jez making all point after attempts.
Despite a late scoring drive by China Spring, the Broncos emerged victorious with a final score of 28-6. This win secured a winning season and provided momentum heading into the next season .
