The Lake Belton freshman girls' basketball team showed grit and determination but ultimately fell to Temple High 49-35 in a competitive game on Monday night. From the opening tip, Temple set the pace with their aggressive defense and fast-break offense, jumping out to an early lead. Lake Belton struggled to find their rhythm in the first quarter, but their defense held strong to limit Temple’s scoring opportunities.
The second quarter saw the Broncos begin to settle in. Behind the leadership of point guard Harloe Blaire, who led all Lake Belton scorers with seven points, the team began to chip away at Temple’s lead. Blaire’s court vision and ability to knock down critical shots were pivotal in keeping the Broncos within striking distance.
By halftime, Temple held a 25-18 advantage, but Lake Belton came out of the locker room with renewed energy. The Broncos tightened their defense, forcing turnovers and converting them into points.
Despite their efforts, Temple’s balanced offensive attack proved too much for the Broncos. The Wildcats capitalized on second-chance opportunities and hit crucial shots in the fourth quarter to extend their lead. Temple’s relentless full-court press also caused late-game turnovers, sealing the victory for the Wildcats.
