The Lake Belton Broncos traveled to Salado on Thursday night to face the Eagles, falling 24-0 in a tough contest. All of Salado’s scoring came in the first half, as the Broncos’ offense struggled to find rhythm early.
Despite the slow start, Lake Belton showed plenty of positives and grit to build on moving forward. The Broncos’ defense came alive in the second half, holding the Eagles scoreless and forcing key turnovers to swing momentum.
Defensive Highlights
Javier Hernandez and Mason Schrecenghost both forced fumbles, sparking energy for the Broncos on the defensive side of the ball. Hernandez also tallied three tackles, while teammates Bevill and Gardner chipped in two and three stops, respectively. The defense adjusted well after halftime, demonstrating toughness and determination that kept Salado out of the end zone for the remainder of the game.
Offensive Efforts
On the ground, Garza picked up 15 rushing yards and Sutterfield added 10 yards. Sutterfield also showed poise in the passing game, completing 3 of his 5 attempts. While the offense couldn’t crack the scoreboard, the Broncos began to find a rhythm in the second half that gives them confidence heading into their next contest.
Looking Ahead
The Broncos know the first half didn’t go their way, but the second-half performance showed their ability to adjust, compete, and fight to the end. The defense’s resilience and flashes of offensive potential are positives that the team plans to build upon.
Lake Belton will regroup and get back to action next Wednesday, aiming to put together a complete game and continue their growth this season.
